Juvenile Court and Detention Center Gets New Home

Prescott AZ (October 8, 2012) ? The public is invited to attend the ribbon cutting ceremony for the Yavapai County Juvenile Justice Center on Friday, October 26, 2012 at 10:00 a.m. at 1100 Prescott Lakes Parkway, Prescott, Arizona 86301. Reception and tours immediately following ceremony.

Confirmed speakers include?Yavapai County Board of Supervisors Thomas Thurman and Carol Springer; Scott Mabery, Director of Juvenile Court Services; Presiding Yavapai County Superior Court Judge, the Honorable David Mackey, and the?Honorable Robert Brutinel, Arizona Supreme Court Justice.

The Juvenile Justice Center will place all juvenile related matters in western Yavapai County under one roof. The center will accommodate a full service courtroom, hearing room and chambers for two judges and staff, Clerk of the Court offices, the Yavapai County Juvenile Probation Department , Victim Services for Juvenile Cases, Court Administration offices relating to juvenile matters, including Court Appointed Special Advocates (CASA) and Juvenile and Family Drug Court, Yavapai County Education Services, and consideration for co-location of the Juvenile Division of the Public Defender, the Juvenile Division of the Yavapai County Attorney?s Office, counseling and service providers, Child Protective Services, YouthCOUNT, and various other agencies that deal in child and family matters.

In addition, the?center will provide an 80 bed detention center that will allow for direct supervision and expanded treatment services, such as the Detention Substance Abuse Treatment Program, for all juveniles housed there. The new center will provide a full service booking and intake center for juveniles being arrested and placed in juvenile detention.

According to Scott Mabery, Director of Juvenile Court Services, ?The Juvenile Justice Center will provide better collaboration between all Yavapai County children?s service agencies and will provide the infrastructure to implement an educational, pro-social, and rehabilitative setting for all the kids in our care.?
